Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum

Sound console strapped to a Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba

Some of my recordings have recently seen light from inside a custom-built "Engine Room" interactive exhibit at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, located on part of RAF Dumfries, Scotland.

The museum hosts many aircraft and a collection of engines. The interactive exhibit allows visitors to hear each of the engines on display. I think this would make a massive improvement to any museum and is something I hardly come across.

The collection's aicraft include

English Electric Canberra, Gloster Meteor T7, Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer,  Jetstream T1, Bristol Sycamore 3, Spitfire lla, Hawker Siddeley Trident 3B, Fairey Gannet ,  North American F-100D, Lockheed T33A, Hawker Hunter F4, F-111E, Dassault Mystere IVA, J/1N Auster Alpha, Jet Provost T4, Saab J 35A Draken,
English Electric Lightning F.53, Wessex HU.5.

The sounds used in the exhibit are

  • Rolls Royce Kestrel, Hawker Hind
  • Packard Merlin, P51 Mustang
  • Rolls Royce Merlin, AVRO Lancaster
  • Rolls Royce Griffon, Supermarine Seafire
  • Rolls Royce Avon, Hawker Hunter
